Join CMAA-SAC as we present a panel of representatives from the planning, design and construction departments of Senior Living developers in our region. The panel will discuss their current programs, the impacts of the pandemic on the overall market and schedules, market trends (luxury, multi-function or progressive campuses, impact of commodity pricing increases on current and future projects, etc.

PANELISTS:

John Elliston, Vice President of Physical Plant Operations | Beacon Communities

John joined Beacon Communities in 2001. His responsibilities included 10 years as the Executive Director for an assisted living, memory care and independent living community in South Carolina. The success of this community was built on a foundation of his demonstrated commitment to his engaging servant leadership style, his detailed attention to operational excellence, his people centered approach to customer service, and all of this built on values of personal character and integrity. After serving with Beacon through 2012, John joined Thrive Senior Living in Atlanta, GA as the V.P. of Operations. John rejoined Beacon Communities in 2017 as their Chief Operating Officer.

John’s proven experience and demonstrated commitment to the operational needs of each of the communities operated by Beacon, in partnership with his Beacon colleagues, helps to ensure that those communities maintain a thriving environment for our residents.

Prior to Beacon Communities, John was with EdenCare Senior Living in Atlanta for three years. Prior to joining the senior living sector, John had a 27-year successful “first” career in the building industry.

John graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from Jacksonville University. He has served in leadership positions in his church, his local community and has led organizational efforts in civic responsibility. John served on the Board of Directors and is a Past President for the South Carolina Association of Residential Care Homes, now known as SCALA.


Chris Adkins, President, Development and Construction | Mansions Senior Living

Chris is the President of Mansions Senior Living development and construction company. He also oversees all operating buildings with maintenance, warranty, and property improvements. He has worked with Mansions Senior Living since 2013 and has over 20 years’ experience in construction specializing in multi-family, mixed use, and senior housing. He has extensive knowledge in ADA, fair housing, code compliance, and innovative building design. Prior to joining the Mansions team Chris worked with developers throughout the southeast including the position of Senior Project Manager for Trammell Crow. Before joining the construction industry, Chris served as a Black hawk helicopter pilot in the US Army and has a bachelor’s degree in construction project management.


Allen LaBerteaux, Senior Life and Safety Officer | Fire Marshal’s Office – State of Georgia

Allen LaBerteaux came to the State Fire Marshal’s Office in June of 2007, as a Sr. Life Safety Engineer. Since that time, he has taken on numerous responsibilities including Life Safety plan review for Healthcare, Assisted Living/Personal Care Homes and Daycare Centers. He also assists the Georgia State Fire Marshal, Dwayne Garriss, with Variance requests, code research and development of new regulations.

 


MODERATOR:

Shane Hornbuckle, Principal | Van Winkle Construction

Shane Hornbuckle grew up on the job sites of his father’s construction company before joining Van Winkle in 1992. His personable demeanor and adaptable skills prove him a valued member of any project team. Shane oversees the company’s sales, marketing, and promotional initiatives.

Shane is a proud alumnus of Oglethorpe University and very involved with his local community. When he is not acting as a liaison for his church and charity organizations, he enjoys hunting, golf, and playing with his dog Rosco.
